Belarusian Language Society Not Evicted Yet :: Charter'97 :: News

The authorities of the Partisan District of Minsk have extended contract of tenancy until March 31 for the premises where the head office of the national civil association “Francishak Skaryna Belarusian Language Society” is situated, BelaPAN informs.

In January this year the housing and communal services department of the Partisan District of Minsk warned the Belarusian Language Society that the contract of tenancy of the premises in the Rumyantsaw Street, 13 would expire on March 4 and it would not be extended as the housing and communal services need this place for their own needs.

The Leadership of the Society was offered to leave the place. The Council of the Belarusian Language Society sent a letter to Mikhail Pawlaw, chair of the Minsk executive committee, with the request to extend the contract. Besides, the Society turned to the public for support. As chairman of the BLS Aleh Trusaw told BelaPAN, the answer of the housing and communal services department was received on January 24. It informs about extension of the contract of tenancy until the end of March. Trusaw expressed his sincere gratitude to thousands of citizen of Belarus and foreign countries, who supported the BLS in their addresses to the government and Minsk authorities. Trusaw hopes the BLS would win that premises for its head office.
