The most recent scandal with Lukashenka is obviously not the very last one. The whole history of the fraternal alliance of “flies and cutlets” consists of a series of scandals alternated with affected vows of eternal love and loyalty – they supplement each other very well. No doubt that this running on the spot to the blissful goal would continue. It is clear why the “union state” is impossible – just because it cannot be ever. Not a single state in the world would give up its sovereignty of its own free will.

Against the background of the USSR, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia’s disintegration, we remember the only occasion of integration: the GDR’s reunification with the FRG. But it was an exceptional situation: one nation, which dreamt for reunification for decades, a complete bankruptcy and disappearance of political elite and all political institutions of the GDR.

As for Russia and Belarus, we see twp peoples, no matter how brotherly they are, but they are different, with different languages, for instance. There are adequate political institutions in Belarus, a rather active political elite, and the main thing, there is Batka (Father) himself. It is impossible for any president of Belarus to liquidate his one state, and Lukashenka with his thirst for power is absolutely not able for that.

There is no equal union with Belarus. There could be mutually beneficial partner relations with Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan. And completely different relations have formed with Belarus. They are economically unbeneficial for Russia while they are psychologically pleasing (even desirable, healing!) for a part of Russian elite. They are relations of pseudo-vassalage dependency.

This is where the Achilles` heel lies: part of the Russian elite is psychologically dependant on their “vassals”, existence of vassals is essential for their self-affirmation.
