Belarusian FM Criticizes US Department of State Report on Human Rights 16:45, 27/02/2004
Belarusian Foreign Ministry estimated critically the US Department of State’s annual report on human rights in its part on Belarus.
“Even a cursory study of this document testifies that the American side again has failed to avoid bias in estimation of the internal political situation in Belarus, including the sphere of human rights,” told head of the Foreign Ministry information department Andrei Shuplyak to Interfax on Friday.
As said by him, the “Foreign Ministry proceeds from the fact that the question of human rights should not be politicized artificially and used as a instrument of pressure on other countries”. “Belarus is open for a dialogue and discussion of the human rights problems, but on an equal basis, and without using double standards,” underscored A. Shuplyak.
