Prosecutor’s Office Warns Human Rights Activist 11:08, 02/03/2004
On March 1 Zmitser Salawiow, a representative f the human rights center “Viasna’ in Navapolatsk, was summoned to the prosecutor’s office of the town, where he was informed that in case he would “carry out activities on behalf of the unregistered civil association “Human Rights Center “Viasna” and in case of carrying out some actions on behalf of this organization, administrative sanctions would be applied against him”.
Zmitser Salawiow was told that the prosecutor’s office was informed by the Navapolatsk executive committee and Administration of justice of Vitsebsk oblast executive committee that in December 2003-January 2004 a newspaper of Viasna human rights center was distributed. The newspaper informed that the human rights center Viasna continues its work, and articles of this center were published. In the statement signed by the head of the town executive committee was said that “the abovementioned facts prove that the human rights center is going to carry out some activities, though it is not registered properly”.
