Belarusian democratic leaders express solidarity with “Zubr” activists 17:23, 03/03/2004
Leader of Belarusian social-democratic party “Narodnaya Gramada”, coordinator of European coalition “Free Belarus” Mikola Statkevitch, leader of United Civil party, one of leaders of People’s coalition “5+” Anatoly Lebedko and representative of deputy group “Republic” Vladimir Parfenovich expressed solidarity with young people from official youth organization BRYU from Baranavichi town that joined “Zubr” movement. Politicians support youth that decided to struggle for democratic future of Belarus and left BRYU for oppositional movement “Zubr”.
Mikola Statkevich:
-- I am happy with that fact. Because I remember my young years. They were making us to join Pioneer organization than komsomol, than communist party. Lies was everywhere and everything was false. And everyone knew that everything is false… That is why this protest of youth showed that we have normal European youth. Youth will start our return to Europe.
Anatoly Lebedko:
-- This was a civil deed. Young people, especially people who study in colleges and Universities never supported Lukashenko. And they showed with their deed that regime failed to “buy” youth for privileges and for free tickets to diskos. If it is necessary we are ready to use structures of coalition “5+” to provide this young people not only moral but also legal and other support.
Vladimir Parfenovich:
Every person has right for his own opinion. This young people committed courageous deed. If it is necessary I’m ready to come to Baranavichi and help this people protect their rights. I express them my support and wish them be strong. I also with them to stay humans and live with clear conscience.
