Democratic Leaders Express Solidarity With Political Prisoners 15:29, 12/03/2004
Representatives of democratic forces of Belarus issued a declaration in support of activists of resistance movement Zubr Mikita Sasim and Andrei Chyzh, who were arrested on March 10 for spreading newspaper “Supratsiw”. In the declaration the democrats state: “We, representatives of the democratic forces of Belarus, express our solidarity with political prisoners, activists of the Zubr movement Mikita Sasim and Adrei Chyzh, who were thrown into a pre-trial detention cell in Baranavichy, and demand their discharge. We protest against actions of the authorities, who pressurize the students of Baranavichy college of light industry, who joined the youth movement Zubr”.
Among those who signed the declaration are coordinator of the European coalition “Free Belarus” and international coordinator of civil initiative Charter’97 Andrei Sannikov, and its member, leader of civil initiative “Solidarity” Anatol Fiodaraw, representatives of the People’s coalition “Five Plus” deputy chair of Central Rada of the party “Belarusian Social democratic Hramada” Mechyslaw Hryb, the leader of the Belarusian popular Front Vincuk Vyachorka, chairman of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka, representatives of the parliamentary group “Respublika” Valery Fralow and Mikhail Marynich, chairman of the Party Of Communists of Belarus Syarhei Kalyakin, head of the human rights center “Viasna” Ales’ Byalyatsky and a lawyer of “Viasna” Valyantsin Stefanovich, chairperson of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Zhanna Litsvina, leaders of the Young Front Paval Sevyarynets and Syarzhuk Lisichonak.
