Gazprom and Beltransgaz Failed to Come to Agreement Again 16:25, 12/03/2004
On Friday Gazprom - Russia’s natural gas giant and Beltransgaz of Belarus on Friday failed to agree anew on the export of gas to Belarus, RIA Novosti were told in Gazprom. “Talks with Beltransgaz on gas supplies and gas transit in 2004 have been fruitless again,” told representative of the Russian company.
As it was underlined in the company, the Belarussian side proposed to lift the transit tariffs two times as compared to the last year, and at the same time to buy gas at the price lower than the ‘basic’ one, $46.68 per thousand cubic meters instead of $50.
“We do not understand optimism of Beltransgaz. The Belarusian side proposes unacceptable and non-market terms. Gazprom is ready to supply gas to the country, but sees no reasons to work at a loss,” Sergei Kuprianov, press secretary of Gazprom head told RIA Novosti.
