As the press center of the Charter’97 have just found out, Alyaxandar Lukashenka has appointed the new head of the National State TV and Radio Company (NSTRC). According to some sources, it is Matvyajchuk, deputy director on staff and ideology of the Glass Fiber plant from Polatsk (“Polatsk- Shklovalalkno” joint-stock company, www.polotsk-psv.by). We have not found any information about the new head of the National State TV and Radio Company.
The Belarusian Embassy in the Russian Federation has expressed concern about "provocative comments regarding developments in Belarus" aired by the Russia TV channel. The Belarusian Embassy has released an official statement to this effect.
A purge of the Belarusian KGB is quite on the cards, a Belarusian independent daily has written. The newspaper said this premise is borne out by the failure of some top KGB officials to pass an appraisal which had always been regarded as a formality. A letter addressed to A. Lukashenka was sent by an International League of Human Right yesterday: «The International League for Human Rights, a non-governmental organization based in New York with special consultative status with the UN ECOSOC, expresses concern about the criminal charges recently filed against a prominent opposition leader Anatoly Lyabedzka, chairman of the United Civic Party in Belarus, and the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, a well-known human rights group.»
On 23 March the Supreme Economic Court rejected another suit of the BDG (Marat company) to the Information Ministry. Journalists tried to challenge the warning the Ministry issued on 30 January, reports BAJ press service.
On Tuesday in Slonim police detained representatives of the People coalition Five Plus, deputy chair of the Party of Belarusian Communists Alyona Skryhan, chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Vincuk Vyachorka, and a member of the United Civil Party Anatol Pawlaw. They together came to Slonim on invitation of the deputy of the local council Ivan Shega for a meeting with voters. The meeting was planned in a local school, but it turned out that is had been locked. It was decided to hold a meeting in a schoolyard, on the benches. In his phone interview Vyachorka told what happened next:
