Participants of Meeting Tried in Salihorsk 14:27, 29/03/2004
Seven detained participants of a meeting that took place in Salihorsk on March 25, were summoned to the town court of Salihorsk. Five of them were fined, one was issued a warning, and a trial over another one participant is to be held this week, Radio Svaboda informs.
Four of the detained are members of the Salihorsk branch of the Conservative Christian Democratic Party – Belarusian Popular Front, two are members of the United Civil Party, and one girl was a casual passerby. Two were fined 100 basic units each, and three were fined from 20 to 25 basic units. The detention happened on March 25 during unsanctioned meeting in the center of Salihorsk. The meeting was held under slogans of social character. The participants protested against contract system and enormous costs of municipal service, for whichpensions are not adequate.
