Provocation of Belarusian KGB
17:15, 02/04/2004

As Russian news agency Interfax informed yesterday evening, the KGB of Belarus has seized a huge sum of money intended for Belarusian opposition. As said by the chairman of the KGB of Belarus, Leanid Yeryn (Leonid Erin), the matter concerns 100 thousands US dollars. “We are investigating now, who has been transporting this sum,” underscored the KGB head. He emphasized that “the sum could be even bigger”. As said by the KGB head, the smugglers were not detained.

According to the preliminary information, Alyaxandar Lukashenka was the first who mentioned hundred thousands dollars for Belarusian opposition today at one of the meetings. The chairman of the KGB Leanid Yeryn was present at the opening of the eight session of the “chamber of representatives of the national assembly” today, where journalists addressed him and asked to comment on the words of Lukashenka.

The head of the KGB certainly could not refute the words of the president and had to say that Lukashenka’s statement is simple truth. In any case Yeryn had no choice, as his positions have become unstable lately, and the rumors are informing about his close retirement. Next week the head of the KGB is to undergo re-certification.

The words of Lukashenka are most likely a provocation. It is not for the first time when Belarusian president declares something about mythical millions of dollars, which are transferred by notorious West and USA to the Belarussian opposition for struggle with his regime. One of the leaders of the Union of Right Forces, Boris Nemtsov, according to Lukashenka, brought 50, 000 dollars to his colleagues-democrats in Belarus before his deportation. Later it was clear that he talked nonsense.
