An action, dedicated to the missing politicians, was held in Minsk :: Charter'97 :: News

About 80 Zubr activists took part in the action, which has been held in Minsk in April, 17. The action was dedicated to the prominent people missing in Belarus. The portraits of the missing Yuriy Zakharenko, Victor Gonchar, Anatoliy Krasovskiy, Dmitriy Zavadskiy and the killed under obscure circumstances Gennadiy Karpenko in their hands, the Zubr activists lined up on the two sides of Scorina Avenue.

Like the majority of the actions organized by the Zubr, this one was kept a secret, and, hence, turned a surprise for the police. Nevertheless, 20 minutes after the beginning the police forces started gathering at the place where it was being held. After 10 minutes more the young people left the place. The action over, the police arrested several Zubr activists, but after the documents had been checked, the people were released.

As usual, the head of the public security department of the Inner Affaires city administration, colonel Vorobyov stunned the public. He was running along the line of the young people who were carrying the portraits and was swearing blatantly brandishing his radio communicator. Such behavior of a police authority could hardly have furthered the growth of respect towards the police at the Belarusian tax-payers.
