Official Warning For Rally In Slonim 13:07, 23/04/2004
Organizer of the mass meeting in Slonim on the occasion of the 86th anniversary of proclamation of the Belarusian People’s Republic, leader of the regional Belarusian popular Front branch “Adradzhennye” Ivan Bedka was issued an official warning in the court on April 22.
Ivan Bedka received official permission for the rally, however policemen have drawn up two reports. One for using white-red-hwite flags. Another report was drawn up against him because the Belarusian Popular Front party is not registered in Slonim, so the meeting was not sanctioned.
In the court Ivan Bedka explained that he submitted a request to hold a meeting not from the party, and the public association Belarusian popular Front branch “Adradzhennye” is registered in Slonim. Judge Tamara Khamyanets noted that in fact the article 167-10 was not violated, as it means activities on behalf of “unregistered organization”. However, the political activist has received a warning according to the artilce 167 part 2 – “using of unregistered symbols”, Radio Svaboda informs.
