Official Version Of Mikhail Marinich’s Arrest

The Committee of State Security (KGB) have detained the leader of opposition organization “Business Initiative”, former Ambassador of belarus to Latvia, ex-Minister of Foreign Economical Ties Mikhail Marinich. This information was confirmed to Interfax by the chairman of KGB Leanid Eryn. “M.Marinich is accused on charges related to Article 377 (theft of official documents). A considerable sum of money was found belonging to him was found”, told Eryn.

The head of KGB have not given details, whether these documents are taken by him while he was holding a state post, or at another period of his work. Marinich is now in a pre-trial detention ward of the KGB. Accusation to be brought against him in a prescribed time.

Eryn consideres untimely to “connect the case of Marinich with 100,000 dollars seized in Brest region in April this year”, which were aimed for Belarusian opposition supprt, according to KGB information. “This fact is being investigated as well”, told Eryn.

Meanwhile, as the Interfax was told in the Center of Information and PR of Belarusian KGB, during the search official documents of different governmental bodies have been found and seized at Marinich’s place. They contain information which is a state secret, and use of them could cause seriuos damage to the state.


Besides, the IPR Center told that two unregistered foreign guns and 90 thousand dollars were confiscated.

The KGB brought up a criminal action on charges relating Article 377 and Article 295 part 2 of Criminal Code (arms storage), clarified the Center.
