"European Movement" For Marynich’s Release
13:24, 26/05/2004, Ludmila Hryaznova, deputy chairman of the United Civil Party

From 21 to 23 in Riga the 36th Northern European hearings on the topic “New Good-Neighborliness” took place. Participants of the meeting, representatives of the “European Movement” of 13 countries, discussed issues of the EU enlargement, challenges that arose along two sides of the EU borders, state of affairs in the new neighboring countries, principles and priorities of the “New Good-Neighborliness” policy, questions of trans-border cooperation between the countries of the EU and new neighbors, aspects of the Baltic regional cooperation after the EU enlargement.

Participants of the hearings in Riga adopted a resolution, where they noted the necessity of executing special programs of the European Commission aimed at democratic forces and civil society in Belarus, necessity of string international policy as an alternative of Russia’s actions in Eastern European countries.

Representatives of the “European Movement” signed an address with a demand “Free Mikhail Marynich”. Being personal acquaintances of the Belarusian “European Movement” organizing committee chairman, Mikhail Marynich, his colleagues from other countries were upset by the news about his imprisonment in the KGB pre-trial solitary confinement cell. Probably it was the fact that made participants of the hearings to approve concrete decisions on Belarus.
