Yuri Zakharanka’s Brother Deprived Of His Home 12:39, 01/06/2004
Brother of ex-minister of internal affairs of Belarus Yauhen Zakharanka and his underage son were deprived their apartment by the administration and court of Soviet district of Homel and are left without a place to live. The chairman of the administration Tatsyana Filimonchyk insisted on Zakharanka’s status change. The decision was supported by chairman of district court Alyaxandar Kostrykau.
Yuri Zakharanka’s brother and his son were deprived of a residence of 11 square meters. They have received it on condition of leaving the queue for state apartments. “I was told that otherwise I would not receive an apartment, and they promised me to change a temporary contract for a permanent one,” told Yauhen Zakharanka to the correspondent of www.belngo.info
Human rights center “Viasna” offered Zakharanka its help. He will be provided consultations of a lawyer, as he is going to appeal against the decision of the court. Human rights watchdogs believe that it is not by chance that a relative of a disappeared politician has become an injured party in such a difficult situation concerning state apartment.
Yuri Zakharanka, who disappeared in 1999, had started his career in the same Soviet district of Homel.
