Belarusian Deputies Continue Hunger Strike

Hunger strike of MPs of parliamentary group “Respublika” Valery Fralou, Uladzimir Parfyanovich and Syarhei Skrabets continues in the building of the parliament. The deputies express protest against political repressions in the country, demand to change the Electoral Code and to release former minister, the 12th and 13th Supreme Soviet MP, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Belarus Mikhail Marynich from KGB prison. The day before the deputies distributed an address to world community and citizens of Belarus, where they said that Lukashenka’s term extension is intolerable, and called his regime “criminal”. At present deputies are still in their offices. In the building of the parliament a large number of presidential security service are present, though it is outside their competence to guard the parliament. Journalists are not allowed to enter the building. According to the Internal regulations, the deputies can stay in their offices until 10 p.m. “If we shall be asked to leave, we would not start fighting, as security officers are doing their job,” told Valery Fralou. As said by him, the deputies will continue hunger strike at home, and tomorrow they would come to their offices again. “We are going to carry on till the end, told Fralou to the Charter’97 press center. – I am an officer, and honor is sacred for me”. According top information of the press service of the UCP, human rights watchdogs and reporters are to come to the Independence Square at 6 p.m. to support the “Respublika” group.
