Participants of the hunger strike – deputies of the group “Respublika” Valery Fralou, Uladzimir Parfyanovich, Syarhei Skrabets, deputy chair of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Viktar Ivashkevich, the UCP activists Maryna Bahdanovich, Yuri Istomin, Uladzimir Chyrvonenka, Henadz Ananyeu and Uladzimir Radzivonchyk – expressed their support to the rally dedicated to defense of the independent newspaper “Narodnaya Volya” and called on to the citizens to support the protest.
On May 31 College of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court of Belarus left unchanged the decision about a fine of 50 million rubles in favor of the former Belarusian TV and Radio Company chairman Yahor Rybakou, in a result the newspaper is on the verge of closure. The action in support of the newspaper is to take place today at 6 p.m. in the October Square in Minsk.
Yesterday protesters were visited by a number of politicians and public figures. Among them where coordinator of the European coalition “Free Belarus” Andrei Sannikov, Zubr coordinator Uladzimir Kobets, leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka, chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Vintsuk Vyachorka, coordinator of civil initiative “Charter’97” Dzmitry Bandarenka, chairman of the Party of Belarusian Communists Syarhei Kalyakin, human rights watchdog Ludmila Hryaznova, Valery Schukin, Harry Pahanyajla, chairman of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Zhanna Litvina, a famous filmmaker Yuri Khaschavatsky, and others. Several dozens of the Zubr activists came to support the deputies of the “Respublika” group as well.
The health condition of the protesters is satisfactory, taking in consideration that it is the seventh day of hunger strike, told Uladzimir Dziuba, press-secretary of the “Respublika” to journalists at the traditional evening press confere4nce. He told that a number of politicians had visited the strikers, including former chairman of the “council of republic” Alyaxandar Vajtovich. “I think that my house has turned into a place where people of different views meet, though in general they all are democrats,” told Valery Fralou, in whose apartment the hunger strike is staged, at the press conference.
As we have informed, deputies of the group “Respublika” Valery Fralou, Uladzimir Parfyanovich, Syarhei Skrabets, started a hunger strike on June 3. They demand election code improvement, release of oppositionist Mikhail Marynich.
