Seven Oppositionists Joined Hunger Strike :: Charter'97 :: News

On the eighth day of the hunger strike of the “Respublika” group (Valery Parfyanovich, Uladzimir Parfyanovich and Syarhei Skrabets), the United Civil Party and Belarusian Popular Front activists, members of democratic parties and movements from other regions joined the protest. It was told to the media on June 10 at the press conference by the house N 4 in the Kazarmenny lane where the hunger strike is carried out in the apartment of Valery Fralou.

As the chairman of the Zhodzina city branch of the “Young Hramada” Dzmitry Chartkou told, in Zhodzina except him the UCP activist Iryna Vauchanina, and two members of the “Young Front” decided to join the action. “We decided to carry out the hunger strike in out town, and taking into consideration that our medical is better than in Barysau, we are going to invite those who can join the action in this town,” told Chartkou.

As said by him, the hunger strike might end on June 21. “But we can revise the final date of the action,” he said.

Besides, the UCP members Uladzimir Tsybulski (Polatsk, Vitsebsk region), Alyaxandar Tsyarentseu and Ihar Sukharukau (Navapolatsk, Vitsebsk region) joined the hunger strike as well. All the new demonstrators are to carry out the strike at places they live.

As a result, 16 oppositionists are on hunger strike now.
