Stand By Us! 16:10, 11/06/2004
Appeal of the Civil Initiative “We remember!” to young citizens of Belarus We, relatives and families of the abducted and disappeared without traces politicians and public figures, want to address to the young Belarusians, to those on whom the future of our country depends on. Four years ago, on July 7, 2000, the journalist of the Belarusian office of the ORT (Public Russian Television), cameraman Dzmitry Zavadski was abducted. He was younger than 30 years. He was as young, handsome and intelligent, as you are now; he had lots of plans and ideas. He wanted to live for his country, for his family, but somebody’s malicious reason prevented him from seeing his dreams come true. He was not to see his son growing. Like Yuri Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar and Anatol Krasouski could not watch their grown-up children and newborn grandchildren. Everything we are doing is trying to find out the truth. We want our children and grandchildren to know the fate of their parents and grandparents. But it is impossible without your help and support. Together we are to demand the authorities the answers to the questions: Why the investigations were suspended? Why the information received during the investigation is concealed? Why the suspects holding high positions in the state establishment were not made to relinquish their posts until the end of the investigation? Only when the authorities would answer these questions, you and we would be sure that the similar tragedy would not happen again. That is why you, young Belarusians, can create conditions when you and your children could live freely, without lies and fear. Our future depends on all of us. Support our families – stand by us!
