Education Ministry Refused to Accredit European Humanities University 14:42, 15/06/2004
A check by a certification board organized by Education Ministry was finished in the European Humanities University. Despite of positive attestation of the EHU work by the members of the board, the chairman of the certification board Uladzimir Samusevich does not find it possible to accredit the EHU this year.
The reason is that the faculty of economy has not received accreditation. During accreditation exam one of the five students of this faculty received unsatisfactory mark, and the whole university students’ performance percent fell below grade.
The officials also think that the EHU cannot be classified as university, and its status is to be downgraded. According to them, the number of experimental programs is to be limited, including the cooperation with foreign universities. The professors of the EHU are recommended to imprive the quality of upbringing work with the students.
Adviser of the principal of the EHU Syarhei Pankouski believes that the refusal to attest the university is another step of the authorities towards liquidation of the university.
“I think that it is getting obvious in the complex of other moves by state lately, that the authorities are going to liquidate the Humanities University in its present form. Judging by the methods of the authorities, they see the university as a threat,” told the principal’s adviser to Radio Svaboda.
As we have informed, some months ago Minister of Education Alyaxandar Radzkou tried to dismiss the EHU principal Anatol Mikhailau and stopped these attempts only after a demarche of the EU and USA ambassadors. After that for a long time the university could not receive a new license. The EHU personnel think it is possible that they would not be allowed to carry out entrance exams for new students.
