Belarusian Intellectuals Ask to Release Mikhail Marynich

Participants of the Second All-Belarusian meeting of intelligentsia signed up an appeal to the Public Prosecutor of the Minsk region Nikalai Snyahir with the request to change the preventive measure for oppositionist Mikhail Marynich. The authors of the appeal propose to free him on personal guarantee of the “Respublika” deputies Valery Fralou, Uladzimir Parfyanovich and Syarhei Skrabets, who have gone on hunger strike since June 3. Moreover, the release of the ex-minister is one of the purposes of the deputies’ protest.

Ambassadors of EU Countries Call On To “Respublika” Deputies to Stop Hunger Strike

Ambassadors of the countries - members of the EU visited today the participants of the hunger strike in Minsk. On the 14th day of the hunger strike heads of the diplomatic missions confirmed again that the European Union shares the concern of the “Respublika” group deputies and representatives of the political parties about the three issues that made them go on hunger strike: possible third term of Alyaksandar Lukashenka, undemocratic election code and arrest of Mikhail Marynich, one of the opposition leaders. However, out of humanity feeling, the EU countries’ Ambassadors called on to the protesters to stop the hunger strike in order to “preserve health and use all their political courage, which has been proven in practice by them, for the good of for their country”.

Dear mister President! The events that take place near the House of the Government, cause not only deputies and journalists bewilderment, but also many citizens trying to pass past White house get amazed. It`s impossible to get near it; even diplomatic missions accredited in Belarus employees are not allowed to enter the building. There are so many special services agents, that people involuntarily recollect «death squadrons» and 37-th year. They behave extremely inconsiderately, they do not show their certificates and do not introduce themselves, they stop even deputies of Parliament, do not let journalists to enter.

Striker Threatened to Be Placed to Mental Hospital

One of the participants of the hunger strike in Vitsebsk Lidziya Frantsava could have been placed to the mental hospital. Because of high pressure the woman was taken by ambulance. Nobody was allowed to go with her. For an hour participants of the hunger strike were calling to all hospitals of Vitsebsk, however they where told that Mrs. Frantsava was not placed to their hospital.

Five Oppositionists On Hunger Strike In Vitsebsk By Now

Five activists of the Vitsebsk city branch of the United civil Party joined the hunger strike of the group “Respublika” in Minsk, told one of the participants of the hunger strike Ina Syatkouskaya. As said by her, the decision to participate in the protest was taken on June 14. The protesters, Ina Syatkouskaya, Ela Kanavalava, Tatsyana Zajkova and Fiodar Bakunou are in one of private apartments in Vitsebsk. “We support he deputies, and our demands are the same: “No to the third term!”, “For fair elections!” and “Free Marynich,” told I. Syatkouskaya.

Polish President’s State Secretary Monitors Hunger Strike In Belarus

Prof. Tadeusz Iwinski, State Secretary of Polish President’s Aleksander Kwasniewski, told to Radio Svaboda that he is following the hunger strike of the Belarusian parliamentarians and politicians and respects their choice. “It is certainly a question what effect the hunger strike would have. The deputies are trying to turn attention of the Belarusians to the necessity of changes in the election code before the elections. To my mind, speaking about short-term perspective, it could fail, but one can speak with confidence that the protest of the strikers is a brook that could turn into a great river of changes,” told Tadeusz Iwinski.
