Striker Threatened to Be Placed to Mental Hospital 13:11, 16/06/2004
One of the participants of the hunger strike in Vitsebsk Lidziya Frantsava could have been placed to the mental hospital. Because of high pressure the woman was taken by ambulance. Nobody was allowed to go with her. For an hour participants of the hunger strike were calling to all hospitals of Vitsebsk, however they where told that Mrs. Frantsava was not placed to their hospital.
Finally the United Civil Party activists who went on hunger strike with Lidziya Frantsava to support the “Respublika” deputies, managed to find out that the woman was placed to the 3rd city hospital of Vitsebsk. As one of the protesters, Ina Syatkouskaya, told to the Charter’97, Lidziya Frantsava was found almost unconscious. She was obviously given some injections, because of which she was very sleepy. The doctors of the hospital told to the activists who came to take her back that they are going to send her to a mental hospital, as she had had a “nervous breakdown”.
“It is clear that there where no nervous breakdown, nothing of the kind. Lidziya’s blood pressure have raised, she suffers from hypertension. But they want to present us as mental patients,” told Ina Syatkouskaya to the press center of the Charter’97.
Participants of the hunger strike in Vitsebsk managed to take their colleague back from the hospital, but now they know that the authorities are not going to avoid any methods to suppress the wave of mass hunger strikes in the country.
