Al-Bashir’s visit induced by Sudan’s need of belarusian weapon 17:40, 28/07/2004
Sudanese flags are hung in the center of Minsk: yesterday Sudan’s President Omar Hasan Ahmad al-Bashir and his wife arrived in Minsk with an official three-day visit. It is reported officially, that at the time of the visit agreements of trade, investment and scientific-technological cooperation are to be signed. Military analysts are convinced that the question of weapon supplying is one of the most essential in the bilateral relationship. Weapon supplies are organized directly, as well as by re-exporting from other countries, neighboring to Sudan. The weapon is: tanks, war infantry vehicles, artillery systems, also rifle weapon that can be used for suppressions of rebels in Darfur province, which the USA Congress has called genocide recently.
Sudan’s President al-Bashir, who came with Catar Airlines, was met in the airport by Prime-Minister Siargey Sidorski. The day before the Prime-Minister had been on vacations. Obviously, this visit plays a vital role for the Belarusian authorities. Sudan is a potentially prosperous state with huge possessions of oil and gaze; nevertheless, Sudan’s present fundamental Muslim rule and Shariat right keep the country in international isolation and under the threats of international sanctions because of the genocide of the non-Muslim groups of population: harsh dictator regime and civil war. All these facts, however, do not trouble the Belarusian authorities.
Right on the day of Sudanese President’s arrival in Minsk Aliaxandar Lukashenka accepted Credentials from the Ambassador of this state and declared his desire to intensify bilateral relations. As Aliaxandar Lukashenka said, Sudan would stand the international pressure wreaked on it.
Sudan is threatened with international sanctions for rigid civil war and genocide towards the non-Arabic parts of the nation. And maybe this visit is induced by Sudan’s need of belarusian weapon? Ultimately, the official Belarusian powers do not conceal the weapon sales to Sudan. In the national report of the Ministry of Internal affairs of 2004 concerning the export control policy, Sudan was mentioned as the second after Iraqi state-importer of belarusian weapon in concern of importance, Radio Liberty says.
