General Prosecutor of Belarus Viktar Shejman dismissed a petition for changing the punishment for former Minister of Foreign Economic Ties, the Supreme Soviet Council deputy, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Belarus Mikhail Marynich. Lawyer Vera Stramkouskaya was told about that by the Prosecutor of the Republic of Belarus Ivan Sukhaverka. As said by Ivan Sukhaverka, there are “no grounds” for Marynich’s release.
A court hearing that may result in a fine or a jail sentence for Pavel Batuyev, deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF)’s Minsk regional organization, has been postponed until August 9. Mr. Batuyev was originally scheduled to stand trial on August 4.
A judge of the Zheleznodorozhny District Court in Vitebsk imposed a fine of 380,000 rubles on Boris Khamaida for the distribution of the private newspaper Belorusskaya Delovaya Gazeta.
More political prisoners have appeared in special detention center. The court of the Central district of Minsk ordered to arrest activists of the United Civil Party from Salihorsk, Alyaksey Prykhodzka and Natallya Zubarevich for picket in the center of the Belarusian capital. The UCP activists Alyaksey Prykhodzka was sentenced to 15 days of arrest, and Natallya Zubarevich to 10 days.
On August 3 in the evening Alyaksey Prykhodzka, Tatsyana Laryonava and Natallya Zubarevich took part in the picket on October Square. They held a streamer: “10 years of dictatorship. Go away, Lukashenka!” Natallya Zubarevich handed away leaflets with the names of the disappeared people, and the names of politicians, against who politically motivated proceedings had been instituted.
