Central election commission to consider 13 complaints about registration denial to nomination groups 15:35, 20/08/2004

The central election commission is to consider 13 complaints from those who intended to enter October`s parliamentary race through the collection of voter signatures but could not obtain official registration for their nomination groups, Nikolai Lozovik, secretary of the commission, told BelaPAN.

As Vladimir Levaneusky one of Valery Levaneusky’s sons said to Charter’97 press-service, court of Leninsky district court of Grodno vill start to view case of his father who had been accused of insulting Lukashenka. Levaneusky have been kept in prison since spring of 2004. The trial will be carried out in building of court: Grodno, Dovatora street 2/1.

Criminal case against ex-chair of Belarusian TV passed to court 12:11, 20/08/2004

Public prosecution finished investigation of law suit against ex-chairman of Belarusian state TV Yahor Rybakou. All materials were sent to Board on criminal cases of Supreme court. During the investigation accusations were not changed. He is still accused of misappropriation, bribery and abuse power.

Valery Frolov, a leader of the Respublika group, has been admitted to the Belarusian Social Democratic Party “Narodnaya Hramada” (BSDP). Mr. Frolov’s application for membership was approved by the party’s Minsk city branch on August 19 after BSDP leader Nikolai Statkevich recommended the lawmaker for admission.

Vladimir Rusakevich, Belarus` minister of information, has issued an order that the Novaya Gazeta Smorgoni, a private newspaper based in Smorgon, Grodno region, should be suspended for three months. The order took effect on Monday, but Mr. Ulan did not learn about it until Thursday, when he received a copy by mail.
