The meeting of the UN Commission on Human Rights` Working Group on Arbitrary Detention with Belarusian political prisoner Mikhail Marynich will not take place. According to Marynich’s lawyer Vera Stramkouskaya, the request of the Working Group was not complied with. The meeting was planned for today’s evening, but it would not happen. Tomorrow the Working Group is organizing a press conference to tell about its two-week stay in Belarus.

One of entrepreneur movement leaders Valery Levaneuski spends the 116th day in prison. On Thursday he and his comrade Alyaksandar Vasilyeu are to face trial for public insult of president Lukashenka. The both accused meanwhile are going to participate in parliamentary elections. As Radio Svaboda reports, not the collection of signatures for their nomination is underway. It is more difficult for the initiative group of Valery Levaneuski, as he is not released despite of the petition of his lawyer.

A judge of Belarus’ Supreme Court on August 25 threw out the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF)’s appeal against the justice ministry`s warning. The appeal became the first in a series of complaints filed by four parties affiliated with the Five Plus coalition to have the warnings issued by the ministry this past July over a newspaper article annulled.

The Supreme Court of Belarus on August 23 rejected a lawsuit filed by the administration of European Humanities University (EHU) against the education ministry in connection with the revocation of the university`s license. The Court reportedly explained that the university lacked academic premises.

Valery Levonevsky, leader of market vendors` strike committee in Grodno, is scheduled to appear in a district court in the regional center on Thursday to answer charges of insulting the head of state and organizing an unsanctioned demonstration.

The Supreme Court of Belarus has already upheld the central election commission’s decisions to reject complaints about registration denials with regard to two nomination groups, Nikolai Lozovik, the commission`s secretary, told BelaPAN on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tsentralny District Court in Minsk on August 25 starts hearing a suit against the Minsk regional office of the Committee for State Security. The suit was filed by Mikhail Zemlyakov, a Vitebsk resident, in connection with what he called illegal entry and seizure.

Belarus intends to let the third GSM operator to the country market. Announcing it, Alyaksandar Lukashenka stated that the new enterprise would be under control of the state, and should use only Belarusian money without participation of foreign investors. The technical “filling”, including relay transmitting towers, and telephone receivers, are to be of Belarusian production, if possible. And in order everything was done “honestly”, Lukashenka told that the tender for new company making is to be carried out under vigilant surveillance and control of the KGB and the head of state.

All concerts and concert tours and in our country are carried out according to the regulations “On order of concert and tour activities in the Republic of Belarus”. Recently the Ministry of Culture has formulated a new drafting of this statute. The Council of Ministers is to approve it, and after that concerts of some groups could be given up for lost. According to the new version of the law, culture departments are to establish commissions of arts experts for previewing of the repertory of performers. Without an authorization of these commissions it would be impossible to organize and carry out a concert.
