The meeting of the UN Commission on Human Rights` Working Group on Arbitrary Detention with Belarusian political prisoner Mikhail Marynich will not take place. According to Marynich’s lawyer Vera Stramkouskaya, the request of the Working Group was not complied with. The meeting was planned for today’s evening, but it would not happen. Tomorrow the Working Group is organizing a press conference to tell about its two-week stay in Belarus.
One of entrepreneur movement leaders Valery Levaneuski spends the 116th day in prison. On Thursday he and his comrade Alyaksandar Vasilyeu are to face trial for public insult of president Lukashenka. A judge of Belarus’ Supreme Court on August 25 threw out the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF)’s appeal against the justice ministry`s warning. Belarus intends to let the third GSM operator to the country market. Announcing it, Alyaksandar Lukashenka stated that the new enterprise would be under control of the state, and should use only Belarusian money without participation of foreign investors. All concerts and concert tours and in our country are carried out according to the regulations “On order of concert and tour activities in the Republic of Belarus”. Recently the Ministry of Culture has formulated a new drafting of this statute. The Council of Ministers is to approve it, and after that concerts of some groups could be given up for lost. According to the new version of the law, culture departments are to establish commissions of arts experts for previewing of the repertory of performers. Without an authorization of these commissions it would be impossible to organize and carry out a concert.
