NEWS  UN delegation to visit jailed Ex-Belarus minister 14:48, 25/08/2004 The UN Commission on Human Rights` Working Group on Arbitrary Detention will visit the Belarusian State Security Committee`s (KGB) pretrial detention center where former Belarusian economics minister and ambassador to Latvia Mikhail Marinich is being held, Marinich`s lawyer Vera Stremkovskaya told Interfax on Tuesday. A principled agreement on this issue has been reached with law enforcement agencies, and the UN delegation is expected to visit Marinich on August 25, Stremkovskaya said. The ex-minister has been indicted for illegal possession of firearms. In addition, he is suspected of stealing government documents. Several requests by Marinich`s defense to release him before trial have been rejected.
