Insult Of President In Phrase «Lukashenka Must Resign»?
11:25, 01/09/2004, Radio Svaboda

In Hrodna in the court of the Lenin district continues consideration of the criminal case against heads of the strike committee Valery Levaneuski and Aliaksandar Vasilyeu. They are charged with public defamation of president Lukashenka, and Mr. Vasilyeu also with organization of unsanctioned meeting. The witnesses were interrogated in the court. The question was if there was president’s defamation in the poem in the 1st May leaflet, if there were really disorders in the streets after the meeting on May 1?

Yesterday was the fourth day of the proceedings. The first witness interrogated was police captain Herasimovich. Valery Levaneuski, who is kept in the cage during the process, asked him many questions. To some questions the policeman answered in a differently than in the prosecutor’s office during the investigation. Judge Dzemchanka was to ask him, which evidence should be taken as a basis, that or previous one? Captain Herasomovich told, that the previous statement was true. According to the policeman, he regards posters with the words “Lukashenka must resign!” as a libel of the president.
