Pope John Paul II appoints new apostolic nuncio to Belarus 12:20, 21/09/2004
Pope John Paul II on September 15 appointed Martin Vidovic as apostolic nuncio to Belarus, raising him at the same time to the dignity of archbishop. Mr. Vidovic is expected to arrive in Belarus during the next three months, Henryk Jagodinski, secretary of the apostolic nunciature, told BelaPAN.
Ivan Yurkovich, the former Vatican ambassador to Belarus, was appointed this past April as apostolic nuncio to Ukraine and left for Kyiv in May.
Martin Vidovic was born near Dubrovnik in Croatia on July 15, 1953. He served as editor with the Croatian service of Radio Vatican from 1983 through 1994 and as secretary for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Vatican State Secretariat between 1994 and 1999. He was later in charge of the organization of pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
He is said to speak German, French, Italian, Russian and Spain.
