Belarus is going to a define a number of state officials from the USA and the EU, who are to be denied entry to the country, told deputy head of the foreign ministry’s Information Office Ruslan yesin on Tuesday. “Now the ministry is compiling a list of the US and EU officials who would be barred from Belarus’ territory,” he said, commenting on the EU and USA travel bans for four high-ranking Belarusian officials.
After the Central Election Committee considered the appeals of the unregistered contenders for deputy position, 40 candidates were restored. At present 399 candidates for the position in the House of representatives are to take part in the election race, told the secretary of the Central Election Commission Nikalay Lazavik.
Five months have passed since the leader of the Hrodna National Strike Committee of Entrepreneurs, member of the European Coalition “Free Belarus” Valery Levaneuski was placed to the pre-trial detention center of Hrodna. On September 7 the court of Lenin district found Valery Levaneuski and Aliaksandar Vasilyeu guilty of public insulting of Belarusian president, together with a grave crime (Article 368 Part 2 of the Criminal Code). In the verdict it was indicated that in the phrase “Come and say that you are against somebody’s going to Austria skiing and enjoying one`s life by spending your money”, which was printed in the leaflet, an insult of the president of Belarus was found. Recently his lawyer told the news from the cell number 85 of the First prison of Hrodna, where Valery Levaneuski is kept.
Belarus is preparing for a referendum. Alyaksandr Lukashenka has asked the people whether he can stand for a third term for the president`s throne. The media are actively helping the electorate determine their answer. On the television, election campaign trailers are running. Recently, it must be said, there have been fewer, the leader himself has warned journalists away from excessive zeal. Our correspondent in Belarus, Viktor Kuzmin, reports.

Resistance movement Zubr carried out two actions of solidarity on the 27th of September when five months passed since arrest of one of leaders of Belarusian opposition.
Coordinators of the youth movement “Zubr” accuse the KGB (the Committee of State Security) in repressions against organization’s activists. The officers of the KGB took part in the last detentions and searches in the activists’ apartments.
Member of the PACE, deputy of the Cypress parliament, author of the report “Disappeared In Belarus” Christos Pourgourides commented the EU decision to the Radio Svaboda. “It is a very, very correct step forward. I do not doubt that the EU would demand this investigation. Mister Lukashenka and his aids must understand that they cannot go against the international community in these questions. We do not want to get involved in the internal affairs of Belarus; we just want Belarus to respect human rights. It is a fundamental thing, that Belarus must carry out investigation of this case. The European Union deliberately gives Mr. Lukashenka a chance, the last chance to think about this case carefully and to take the right decision”.
The US Department of State, in its annual report on International Religious Freedom to the US Congress, expressed dissatisfaction with the conditions of religious freedom in Belarus, noting that they “continued to be poor during the reporting period.”
The government may step up pressure on the opposition parties following the October 17 parliamentary elections and referendum on lifting the constitutional term limit, said Nikolai Statkevich, leader of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party "Narodnaya Hramada" (BSDP), coordinator of Europenian Coalition “Free Belarus”.
Nina Buinitskaya, deputy editor-in-chief of Udarny Front newspaper, was fired on September 20. Udarny Front is a state-run newspaper founded by Shklow district executive committee. The newspaper chief editor Alexander Bialasaw confirmed to Belarusian Association of Journalists that his deputy was dismissed. According to Bialasaw, it was her own decision to quit the job. At the same time, according to BAJ Monitoring Service, the reason for dismissal was “unchecked material” published in the newspaper.
The former Soviet republic of Belarus on Sept. 27 launched the biggest military exercises it has held since gaining independence in 1991, the country’s defense ministry announced.
