Belarus calls U.S. sanctions on company counterproductive 11:25, 01/10/2004, Interfax-West
The U.S. decision to impose sanctions against Belvneshpromservice company is counterproductive and will not promote trust between the two countries, said Belarussian Foreign Ministry press secretary Andrei Savinykh.
"The U.S. State Department announced on September 29 that the United States had imposed restrictive measures against 13 Chinese, North Korean, Indian, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian companies for transferring sensitive technologies to Iran. Belvneshpromservice is one of these companies," he said.
These measures have been taken against a specific Belarussian business, rather than Belarus, Savinykh said.
"Belarus faithfully abides by international regimes for the nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction and does not regard the imposition of restrictive measures against a Belarussian enterprise as fair. The Belarussian company has never broken the country`s international commitments or universal sanctions regimes joined by Belarus," he said.
