Czech Journalist Assailing In Minsk 11:09, 17/10/2004
Unknown people in mufti demanded Czech journalist Miroslav Karas a videofilm with pictures, informed “Radio Svaboda”. Miroslv Karas is a journalist of the Czech television, accredited by the Foreign Ministry to cover the referendum and elections in Belarus.
The accident took place by the building of the Central Election Committee after Miroslav Karas made an interview with member of he Belarusian Popular Front, Ales Mikhalevich, whose registration was cancelled some days before the registration. According to Miroslav Karas, unknown people, who didn’t tell their names, ordered him to stop filming the CEC, took him into the building and demanded to destroy the video tape footage. Miroslav Karas refused to follow the order of the unknown and was released only after he told that he would turn to the Embassy of the Czech Republic for help.
