In Homel And Rechytsa At Polling Stations Similar Violations Are Registered
22:30, 17/10/2004

At the polling stations of Homel and Rechytsa not long before the end of voting observers recorded several similar violations of the Election Code. In Homel, in the district number 36, to raise the turnout, an hour before the voting ended, members of the election commission started to visit homes with transportable ballot boxes. An observer noted in particular that at the polling station number 19 members of the commission Shydlowsky and Smirnow visited houses and insistently urged them to take part in elections and referendum.

The same occasions took place in Homel Selmash district number 34. Candidate of the Party of Communists of Belarus, Uladzimir Syakerka, told the BelaPAN about it. As said by him, to fulfill the ordered target of turnout to 80%, members of the initiative group of candidate Yuri Astapchenka, who heads the concern “Belresourses” and is a serving deputy of the house of representatives now, also went from door to door and call upon the voters to participate in the elections. In Rechytsa constituency number 46 the chairpersons of the polling station number 29 in twenty minutes before the voting ended, despite of the protests of the voters, took the transportable ballot boxes and went to the voters’ homes. Members of the election commission refused to inform the observers how many requests have been submitted for the election commission to come. “They simply took a pile of ballots with them and went away,” told the observer.
