The number of adherents of the European vector of Belarus development is growing, told coordinator of the European coalition “Free Belarus”, chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaya Hramada) Mikola Statkevich. On November 8 two new members joined the European coalition “Free Belarus”: the Party of Freedom and Progress and youth organization “Young Front” headed by Paval Sevyarynets.
On November 9 editor-in-chief of “Mestnaya Gazeta” from the town of Vawkavysk Andrei Shantarovich ended the protest hunger strike, which lasted for 21 days. Mr. Shantarovich considered the appeal of the leadership of the Belarusian association of journalists and 16 independent newspapers’ editors-in-chief, who asked him to stop the hunger strike and spare his strength for journalistic work.
Camera crew of Russian office of French TV channel TF1 was deprived of accreditation for biased coverage of events in Belarus. It is the official phrasing of Belarusian FM. As Foreign Ministry press secretary Andrei Savinykh told to newspaper Pahonya, “information about illegal activities of the camera crew was received from sources of expertise”. French journalists were shooting protest action of youth movement Zubr on November 5. Activists put up a banner “Lukashenka as lost”, protesting against the rigged results of referendum and elections carried out on October 17.
German Social Democrats expressed their protest to the actions of official Minsk in relation to Helmut Kurt, one of the leaders of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. Such a statement has been made on behalf of the leading Social Democratic Party faction of Bundestag Uta Zapf. As said by Uta Zapf, the denial of entry to Belarus for the leader of regional office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation complicates the further cooperation between Germany and Belarus.
Having arrived to Minsk in the beginning of August, Latvian Ambassador in Belarus Maira Mora has not given her for letters of credence to Alyaksandar Lukashenka. Pavel Mozheiko, head of the Grodno regional branch of the Belarusian Association of Journalists, stopped his hunger strike on November 8 following his release from jail. The journalist went on the strike on November 1 after a judge of a Grodno district court sentenced him to seven days in jail for taking part in an unauthorized demonstration staged in early October to protest a huge fine imposed on Yelena Rovbetskaya, editor-in-chief of the Grodno-based weekly Birzha Informatsii.
On 7 November in the town of Babruysk there took place a meeting in honor of October revolution. Two persons were detained while handing out the fly-sheets where the mechanisms of the falsification of the election and the referendum were described. These were the veteran of WWII, 83-year-old Mikhail Meziak and Yury Radzimowski.
Valery Shchukin, a former member of the 13th Supreme Soviet (Belarus` parliament disbanded by Aleksandr Lukashenko in 1996) has called on the pro-democracy persons who sought to be or were candidates in last month`s elections for the Belarusian National Assembly`s House of Representatives to form what he calls a people`s parliament.
Viet Nam has always attached importance to enhancing the relationship and all-round cooperation with Belarus, especially in the economic and commercial fields, said Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh. On November 8 a Coordination committee meeting of the European coalition “Free Belarus”. At the meeting new members joined the coalition, among them the Young Front (chairman – Paval Sevyarynets) and the Belarusian Party of Freedom and Progress (chairman – Uladzimir Navasyad). Paval Sevyarynets was allotted to the Coordination Committee of the coalition.
Aleksandr Lukashenko on November 8 signed a presidential decree that authorizes the Ministry of Internal Affairs to issue licenses for companies that import foreign labor force into Belarus, the Belarusian leader’s press office reported.
