Prisoner Yuri Bandazheuski Placed to Hospital :: Charter'97 :: News

Convict Professor Yuri Bandazheuski was placed to the 1st Clinical Hospital of Minsk. Hepatitis was diagnosed, and doctors are to find out the origin of the virus.

Professor’s wife Halina Bandazheuskaya does not exclude that hepatitis infection was caused by operation he had undergone before.

“Taking into consideration that he is not an alcoholic, he does not drink, smoke, it is more likely a viral hepatitis,” told the Professor’s wife to Radio Svaboda.

Former head of the medical institute Yuri Bandazhewski is serving his term in Gezgaly of Lida district. He is to spend there two more years, as he was sentenced to banishment for free settlement.

The world-famous scientist is a prisoner for the fifth year. In the settlement in Gezgaly he works as a night guard, he watches over storage facilities. When he felt bad, the administration of the colony decided to send him for treatment to Minsk, where his family lives.

As we have informed, Professor Yuri Bandazheuski was charged with bribery and sentenced to a term. Scientists of many countries of the world highly estimated his work, in which he proved correlation of fatal pathologies with the consequences of Chernobyl disaster. Human rights organizations demanded to release him “Amnesty International” considers him a prisoner of conscience. Yuri Bandazheuski is a honorary citizen of several French cities.
