Two Charges Against Mikhail Marynich Now
17:15, 12/11/2004

Former Minister of Foreign Economic Ties, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Belarus, the 12th Supreme Soviet deputy Mikhail Marynich was included in the amnesty. The prosecution on two articles of Criminal Code, Article 377 Parts 1 and 2 (stealing or damaging of documents, seals and stamps), has been stopped. One of the leaders of the Belarusian opposition was amnestied because of his age – Mikhail Marynich is 64. Now violation of the two articles of the Criminal Code are imputed to him: Article 295 Part 2 (illegal actions with firearms, ammunition and explosives), Article 210 Part 4 (stealing through abuse of position by an organized group or at a large scale). Mikhail Marynich is accused of illegal keeping of firearms and embezzlement of office equipment given free of charge to the Belarusian association “Delovaya Initsiativa” headed by M. Marynich for temporary use. Mikhail Marynich was detained by the KGB officers on April 26, and since that time he was kept in the investigatory isolation ward.

As the Charter’97 press center was told by his lawyer Vera Stramkouskaya, yesterday the defence finished reading the case papers. Today the investigation is to give the papers to the Public Prosecutor of Minsk region, who is to decide on the date of the trial.

Vera Stramkouskaya also told that she applied for withdrawing the action against her client. But the application has not been considered by the Prosecutor General still.
