Independent Press Undesirable For Reading By Homel Veterans 12:41, 14/12/2004
Homel regional executive committee obligated the enterprises and organizations to subscribe veterans of war to a number of state-run newspapers.
For instance, the Kirov machine-tool building plant has subscribed 17 persons to the “Sovetskaya Belorussia”, “Sejsmotekhnika” and “Termoplast” presented the veterans receipts for local official newspapers. The campaign is dated for the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Second World War. However, it is insistently prohibited to present subscription for Belarusian independent newspapers to veterans.
Next year no independent newspapers would be received by vast majority of public libraries of the region. Director of culture department of Yelsk regional executive committee Valery Heifman told to Radio Savboda: “You know, I cannot discuss it with you openly. We are not subscribed to them!”
As said by Heifman, he cannot order independently for libraries to receive “Narodnaya Volya”, “Belorusskaya Delovaya Gazeta” and other non-state newspapers.
