Former Deputy And Entrepreneur Arrested :: Charter'97 :: News

As Radio Svaboda found out from the sources in the prosecutor’s office of Belarus, Mikalay Skutau is arrested. In the House of representatives of the second calling he occupied the position of the deputy chairman of the parliamentary Commission on Industry, Fuel and Energy complex, Transport, Communications and Entrepreneurship.

In the previous parliament Mr. Skutau had a permanent image. Those who knew only the facade of the parliament’s work, thought that he is a silent person. In the corridors, whispering in the ear, he allegedly criticized the actions of the authorities severely. But for some reasons he did not want to voice his views from the rostrum or in press.

May be because Mikalay Skutau came to the parliament from business, from the position of director general of “BelRosUkrneft”. Previously he was director general of he Belarusian office of closed joint-stock company “Oil Trading Firm”. And before that he headed the transport department in Minsk city executive council. It is noteworthy that he was arrested by officers of transport prosecutor’s office of Belarus.

Initially Mr. Skutau told that he is going to run for the house of representatives, but later he changed his mind. Some former MPs who worked together with Skutau in former house of representatives think that he could be a suspect either in ‘oil’ or in ‘railway’ cases.
