Man dies after car crash involving soccer star Gleb 11:15, 05/01/2005
A 24-year-old resident of Minsk who was riding in a BMW when it collided last week with an Audi A8 with VfB Stuttgart playmaker Aleksandr Gleb (Hleb) behind the wheel died in a hospital on Monday.
The accident occurred at the intersection between Surganova and Yakub Kolas Streets in central Minsk on the night between December 29 and 30.
The BMW’s passenger suffered a severe head injury, while the car’s driver was hospitalized with a fractured leg.
The city’s road police department declined to release any details of the accident, but several media outlets reported that Mr. Gleb’s Audi was making a left turn during the crash.
The 23-year-old Belarus national midfielder, who was reportedly not under the influence of alcohol during the collision, suffered no injuries and has already joined his team in Germany, the Pressbol newspaper reported.
A criminal investigation has been opened into the accident.
