Belarusian Association "Business Initiative" Comes Out In Support Of Mikhail Marynich 17:05, 25/01/2005
The Council of the International public association “Belarusian Association “Business Initiative” (“Delovaya Initsiativa”) has voiced a protest against conviction of the chairman of the organisation, one of the leaders of the Belarusian opposition, former Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Ambassador Mikhail Marynich, who was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment. The Council of the organization states that the charges against Mikhail Marynch, related to misappropriation of office equipment, given by the US Embassy to the Belarusian Association “Business Initiative” for free for temporary use, are groundless, as “the violations of the order of the equipment’s registration revealed by the investigation were a result of organizational difficulties because of the association’s development and growth, and were aggravated by political pressure and harassment by the registering and executive bodies, and not as a result of the intention to seize the property”. “The court has unlawfully convicted the honest citizen and politician, for whom the activities for the benefit of our country are the highest goal in life,” the statement reads.
