Mikhail Marynich’s Associate Detained In Minsk 13:09, 28/01/2005
On January 27 in Minsk a former director of Minsk plant of October Revolution Mikhail Kryvamaz was detained. He is known as one of the founders of the Civil Party of Belarus leaded by Vasil Shlyndzikau, and as a member of the Belarusian Association “Delovaya Initsiativa” (“Business Initiative”, BADI), headed by Mikhail Marynich.
The information about the detention of Mikhail Kryvamaz was confirmed to Radio Svaboda in the Economical Crimes Police Division of the Soviet district of Minsk. However the policemen had not explained what Mikhail Kryvamaz is suspected of.
From the unofficial sources it is known that Mikhail Kryvamaz was detained in the street shortly after his return from a business trip to Moscow.
For more than 10 years Mikhail Kryvamaz was running the plant of October Revolution, which is famous in Belarus as one of the largest plants producing machines. Last year he was dismissed from the position of the director.
His acquaintance Vasil Shlyndzikau, former MP of the Supreme Soviet, does not exclude that after removal from office Kryvamaz tried to a modern model of machine-tool construction. Vasil Shlyndzikau highly rates the personal abilities of Mikhail Kryvamaz.
“He is a very talented and intelligent person. My personal opinion is that he is one of the most efficient directors of production in general and of machine-tool construction industry in particular. And besides he could make a good political leader, but he decided not to be engaged in that, and does not want it now”.
Vasil Shlyndzikau knows nothing about some claims of law-enforcing agencies to Mikhail Kryvamaz, and he is not excluding that one of the reasons of the authorities’ “attention” to Mikhail Kryvamaz was his membership in the Association “Business Initiative”, headed by Mikhail Marynich.
The arrests of well-known economic executives have become something common in present-day Belarus. As we informed, in the end of the last year the director of Navapolatsk production enterprise “Naftan” Kanstantsin Chasnavitski and deputy directors were arrested. Besides, among the arrested were the director of Minsk bearing plant Valer Penza, the chairman of the State Aviation Committee Fiodar Ivanou and other executives.
