Lukashenko to have authorized representative in legislature 15:15, 11/02/2005
Aleksandr Lukashenko, by his Friday’s edict, instituted a post of authorized presidential representative to the National Assembly. An official appointed presidential representative to the legislature should “ensure cooperation between the head of state and the parliament’s chambers, attend and speak at their sittings, clarify the president’s stance on various matters discussed by the chambers, as well as perform other functions on the instructions of the president,” the Belarusian leader’s press office said.
The press office described Mr. Lukashenko’s decision as “aimed at exercising the constitutional powers of the head of state” and improving “the system of government in the country.”
While introducing Viktor Sheiman, the newly appointed head of the Presidential Administration, to the staff last December, Mr. Lukashenko emphasized the need to institute the post in the legislature. He said that one of the presidential aides should serve in this position, noting that Valery Tsepkalo might be his choice.
