Politically Motivated Dismissals In State University Go On 13:04, 23/02/2005
The director of students` hostels and the head of international relations department were dismissed after signing the political address.
Last Saturday an “Address to Belarusian Nation” was published in the newspaper “Narodnaya Volya”. It was signed by the former head of university Alyaksandr Kazulin, and by other staff of the Belarusian state university, including mechanics and drivers. Even Natalya Masherova supported Kazulin.
The discharges in the BSU started immediately. On Monday the rector of the BSU Vasily Strazhau the director of the students` hostels Pavel VBychkouski, who signed the address as well.
“I had not expected this to happen this way. There was nothing rebellious it. We had a conversation with Stazhau. And I was dismissed on the same day by mutual consent. It is a pity, certainly, as I have been putting my heart and soul into my work for five years. But the life goes on. I will go on with scientific research. I create medicines for cancer,” told Bychkouski to “KP in Belarus”.
Alyaksandr Rukhlya, the head of the department of international relations of the BSU was dismissed as well. Ales Pashkevich, a writer, an assistant professor of the BSU, also had problems.
“I was summoned to the dean. I do not know the topic of conversation yet, but it is easy to guess. I think there will be many other discharges in the BSU”.
