On February 24 the term of suspension of issuing of the independent Hrodna-based newspaper “Birzha Informatsii” came to an end. The newspaper cannot resume publication as Hrodna regional state printing house, that previously printed the newspaper, refuses to sign a new agreement with it.
According to editor A. Raubetskaya, the administration of the printing house explains that there is no director at the moment (the director is to be appointed by Hrodna regional executive committee). However, Raubetskaya does not exclude the possibility that there is a tacit order of the executive committee not to sign an agreement with the independent newspaper.
Information Minister Uladizmir Rusakevich signed the official warning to the “Birzha Informatsii” on February 24, 2004 and suspended its issuing for three months. The sanctions were imposed for publishing an article about referendum.
