International Solidarity With Democratic Forces of Belarus
12:20, 28/02/2005

As we have informed, during the US-Russia summit in Bratislava the leader of civil initiative “We Remember”, member of the council of Civil Initiatives “Free Belarus” Iryna Krasouskaya, and the head of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Zhana Litsvina had a meeting with US President. Besides, before the summit an international conference “A New Quest For Democracy” took place in the capital of Slovakia, in which beside the abovementioned persons participated other representatives of Belarus. Among them was the international coordinator of the civil initiative “Charter’97”, member of the “Free Belarus” Andrei Sannikov. According to him, meetings in Bratislava would promote development of democracy in Belarus.

“It was happening in Slovakia, which is an example of democratic development and liberation from authoritarian regime. The fact that special priority was given to Belarus, and that US President George Bush mentioned Belarus in his speech in the central square of Bratislava, is not a coincidence. At the press conference we saw a concern about the situation in Belarus among its participants. Representatives of 30 countries of the world took part in the conference. I think that it is to influence the international solidarity with the democratic forces in Belarus significantly,” told Andrei Sannikov to Radio Polonia.
