Police in Minsk have instituted criminal proceedings in connection with a false bomb threat that forced the evacuation of the city’s central train station.
An unidentified man called the police hotline shortly after 6.00 p.m., warning that a bomb had been planted inside the main station building, said the Minsk transport police department.
All passengers, the station`s staff and visitors were evacuated from the building within ten minutes but an arriving bomb squad did not discover any explosive devices. The station`s operation was back to normal at 7:17 p.m.
At 7 p.m. a police detail detained a suspected hoaxer near the phone booth on Kabushkina Street from which the call was made. The suspect is an 18-year old 7th grade student of a boarding school for mentally retarded children.
