In 2005 the Gerd Bucerius Prizes “Eastern Europe’s Young Press” are to be given to representatives of mass media of Russia, Belarus and Georgia, the DW-World informs. The prize is awarded to newspapers for high-quality and independent work of journalists.
The main prize of 40,000 Euro is to be recived by the Belarusian news agency BelaPAN. The editorial office of the Moscow daily “Novoe Vremya” and “the only independent newspaper in Northern Caucasia” “Chechenskoe obschestvo” from the town of Nazran’.
20,000 Euro are to go to the staff of the Belarusian non-state newspaper “Vitsebskiy Kurjer”, 10,000 Euro – to journalists of Tbilisi newspaper “Rezonansy”. The international jury also distinguished Moscow journalist Semion Novoprudsky, who is to receive a prize of 10,000 Euro.
