Lawyer once again denied meeting with Marinich 16:50, 22/03/2005
The lawyer of Mikhail Marinich was denied a meeting with her client on Tuesday, four days after her first unsuccessful attempt to visit the jailed politician.
As Mr. Marinich’s son, Igor, told BelaPAN, Valentina Shikhantsova was not allowed to see the jailed oppositionist without any explanations.
Ms. Shikhantsova was to meet her client on March 18 but was told that the meeting “is not recommended in connection with the state of his health.”
Monday’s examination of the stroke-stricken politician, transferred from a correctional institution in Orsha to a prison hospital in Minsk earlier this month, revealed that he had suffered a heart attack about six months ago, according to Igor.
Mr. Marinich continues suffering from stroke-related defects, in particular has trouble speaking, his son said.
“It’s unclear why the doctors conducted a heart, not a neurological examination first,” Igor Marinich said. “I have advised with experts, they say that father needs intensive therapy, above all, which is impossible inside the prison hospital. Apart from this, father should be examined by a neurologist.”
