Lukashenko: integration aspirations of Belarus - main reason why republic has come under pressure from EU and USA
14:29, 22/03/2005

In opinion of the head of state, intractability of the country’s leadership in many issues, both economic and political, is another reason for the outside pressure on Belarus. “We are told: your policy is directed against the interests of the neighbors, including Russia. Or we are pointed out what company should be privatized and sold for nothing”, Alexander Lukashenko said.

As the president noted, the West is not satisfied with the internal political situation in Belarus. “All has been done through the referendum –this is the will of Belarusian people”, the head of state underlined.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus does not create any problems either for the CIS neighbors or the European Union. “We are laid some claims connected with human rights. However, Belarus is the most peaceful and serene country -there are no interconfessional or ethnic clashes and conflicts. The unemployment today makes 1,5%. At the end of 2005 it will be down to 1%. We respect and welcome everybody whatever place they come to Belarus from”, the Belarusian leader noted.

According to him, the accusation against Belarus of dictatorship is “unfounded claims from the West”.

“The aim of this policy is clear – the West wants to keep under its influence everything what once was the empire - the Soviet Union. It will not work out”, the president of Belarus underscored.
