Georgian Parliament Speak In Support Of Belarusian Opposition

Georgian parliament has voiced support of Belarusian political prisoners Mikhail Marynich, Vladimir Levaneuski, Aliaksandr Vasilyeu, and the participants of the protest action on March 25 in Minsk. According to the statement of the committee on foreign relations of Georgian parliament, the committee “expresses serious concern over the arrests of participants of the oppositional meeting in Minsk”, and calls upon the Belarusian government “to respect the fundamental principles of human rights in relation to their citizens, and to release the detainees ass soon as possible”.

“The committee on foreign relations considers such arrests a gross violation of the law, democracy principles, political freedoms and human rights, recognize by international community,” – the statement reads. “We address the international community with a call to support the release of arrested Belarusian citizens and employ all possibilities at their disposal”.

“We call the government of Belarus to release political prisoners, in particular, opposition leaders Uladzimir Levaneuski and Aliaksandr Vasilyeu, sentenced to two years of imprisonment for insult of Lukashenka; Mikhail Marynich, former minister of Foreign Economic Relations, sentenced to a 42-month term on a frame-up in relation with property embezzlement. We also call for release of Anatol Shumchanka, arrested on March 1for organizing a protest rally,” the statement cited by the information agency REGNUM reads.
